It’s almost bitter sweet that our “Soaring Into Action Tour” wrapped up last Wednesday (April 25, 2012) night in Branford, CT. We have had a blast meeting so many new faces and building those relationships along the way! We had a great time helping others tell their stories and ours too. We met our goals for this tour which were …

  1. to introduce Entrepreneurs That SOAR and share the story of who we are and what we do
  2. making connections by building at least 30 new relationships in each town that are new to our ecosystem by meeting our audience “face to face” in a live event, i.e. demonstrating the “high touch” end of our organization
  3. engage and communicate with other solopreneurs, small and independent business owners/professionals into taking more action into growing their businesses
  4. giving an opportunity to our audience to experience our dynamic and vibrant team who can provide mentorship, resources, support and power up alliances

If you missed it, the video will give you a glimpse of the energy of our tour!

I’d also like to thank everyone who had joined and supported SOAR at all 3 locations. We certainly had a blast!

My biggest thank you for Branford must go to Donovan’s Reef restaurant! Thank you so much for providing the great food for our event. Folks, if you’re ever in Branford and are looking for a place to have your parties or events, please contact Lauren, Donovan’s Reef’s Events Coordinator and please mention our name. Here’s Donovan’s Reef’s info:

1212 Main St., Branford, CT 06405

Tel: (203) 488-5573

NOTE: If you’re a small business owner (any one of these - startups, companies with 1-10 employees, a network marketer or an independent professional), who are looking to take more action, connect and experience dynamic and vibrant LIVE events, you are who we’d like to meet and work with within our ecosystem. We invite you to check out our upcoming events and help us “kick them up a notch”!

Skillshare: Why Storytelling Matters

Are you a story teller? We are huge advocates of storytelling. We just never know when our stories will impact the listener’s life. It may just be to help the other person make a mistake that you already have conquered.

What’s your thoughts?

A day in downtown Branford, CT! (click on the arrow to see more pictures!)

In preparation for our “Soaring Into Action Tour” layover event in Branford, CT tomorrow (Wednesday April 25, 2012), I decided to “experience” the town a couple of weeks ago. Indeed … what a beautiful and active downtown!

The trees were peaking with flowers and the weather was just right for a stroll downtown. The retail shops and small businesses indicated that there is a diverse audience in town.

My first pit stop was Ben & Jerry’s ice cream store .. of course! LOL. They were giving free ice cream and contributions were made to raise funds for a local charity. Loved it!

The other store that caught my attention was this one “few weeks old” gift store called “Totally Awesome Goods”. You can see the picture of me and the store owner, Jay above (by the way, Jay’s a really nice guy *smiles*). His store caters to individuals who are looking for that “one of a kind” gift. The shelves were stocked with vibrant colored goods and unique gifts that would make an adult jump up and down with joy! It was so unique that I wanted to touch every little item, and was tempted to “buy everything” in the store! Oh my!

As Jay and I chat, we discovered that we have a mutual business connection, Ed Bartlett, whom I have met one of our SOAR After Hours networking event. In fact, Ed is the owner of the CTOutandAbout.com and you can read his article on Jay’s store here.

I was glad I made that stop to say hello to Jay and if you’re planning to visit Branford, make sure you pay Jay a visit and mention us!

Totally Awesome Goods is located at 1140, Main Street, Branford, CT 06405.

It’s a “pitch” folks, not a “presentation”!

How’s your elevator pitch? Is it making people walk the other direction, away from you that is? Sounding a little “too salesy” and it’s costing you leads and referrals? True, this is where many of us struggle with.

Landing that “right” elevator pitch can be a challenge until you understand the dynamics that make it great. Make it a habit to remind yourself that it is a “pitch” and absolutely NOT a “presentation”! Start with these 7 and work your way up to the different pitches that work best with your audience.

7 elements of a great Elevator Pitch

  1. K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Short)Your pitch should take no longer than 30-60 seconds.
  2. Clear.Use language that everyone understands.
  3. Powerful. Use words that are powerful and strong, but not “bombastic”!
  4. Targeted. Get to know your audience and be specific. If you have target audiences that are vastly different, you might want to have a unique pitch for each.
  5. Be memorable. Use words that create a visual image in your listeners mind. What made you “stand out” amongst the crowd?
  6. Tell a Story. A short story that can illuminate what you do.
  7. Has a Hook. This is the element that literally snags your listener’s interest and makes them want to know more.

If you missed our Middletown event last night (which was part of our “Soaring Into Action Tour” = a Business After Hours event), here’s a look into the energy that filled the Javapalooza Cafe.

If you’re wondering what everyone was doing in that last section of the video … well, they were doing an “Elevator Pitch” exercise! Why was it important?

Please don’t deny it when I say that many of us can use some work when it comes to landing a great “Elevator Pitch”. We miss including many important elements that make our pitches powerful and memorable. We tend to “make a presentation” instead of 30-60 seconds elevator pitches. Conclusion?

Read our “It’s a “pitch” folks, not a “presentation!” post here.

the doctor said I only had six weeks left to network..

Following that last post on the article about the youngest teacher. I feel as if entrepreneur applies to all age groups some people are diagnosed with it earlier than others[Basically some realize there talent and  hover over it while others dive in the realm of possibilities. I find comparing entrepreneurship to something you can be diagnosed with because fro some it comes natural but for others sometimes its  having that big aha moment. And wouldn’t we all love to have one of those on a consistent basis. Also an entrepreneur self medicates through networking that’s a method of healing.Social media is the newest remedy to entrepreneurship,so dont forget to get your prescription refilled.
